You know, over a hundred billion people have ever lived and no generation has been as cluttered as ours. To say that the noise in our world from all the information overload is more than heavy metal sound will be to put it mildly. Everybody is talking and talking has never been easier and cheaper…with a phone and some connection to the internet, you can reach the world. Geography used to be a challenge for content developers, but it’s no longer one…in fact the competition now has a global face.

Email users send 204,000,000 messages;
Google receives over 4,000,000 search queries;
Blog writers post 1400 new blog posts;
Facebook users share 2,460,000 pieces of content;
Twitter users tweet 277,000 times;
WhatsApp users share 347,222 photos;
Instagram users post 216,000 new photos;
YouTube users upload 72 hours of new video;
That’s 2015. Now, think about what is happening in 2018? Probably double. It’s a barrage of content contesting for our finite attention energy. And this can indeed be very discouraging for those who are seeking to cut through the noise and get their voice heard. Before now, all you needed to do was to be good at your game and do great craft, but today, it’s not enough – you will have to show up again and again. You will have to keep up your good work even when you don’t get any early breakthrough because the fact is, people are distracted with life and all its externalities. No matter how noble the kind of work you do is or how much impact you are making, if you don’t speak clearly and shout louder (and do both consistently), we might not be able to hear you….and it’s not so much our fault.
