The most important conversation around leadership is influence – whether unto good or unto bad conscience. Influence rules! Although subtle, it is yet, powerful and real.
All of the good that the world has experienced today has come from influential leadership. Same thing with all of the evils our world has seen. Adolf Hitler was a man like you and me, but he built influence over time and pushed the world to a second world war that claimed millions of lives in its wake. Osama Bin laden displayed excellent project management and people coordination to execute the 9/11 attacks.
That’s the nuisance value of leadership and influence.
In today’s world, there’s no shortage of leaders with high levels of competence as much as there is a shortage of leaders who exude the kind of character that creates human flourishing and provides forward motion for all. That kind of mix is increasingly scarce and it is what we are in dire need of in these days and times.
I hope you bring more to the table.
