The upside to being absent minded

….is that it gives you a chance to do important work. And to find a level of focus and concentration.

There are a number of people who claim to be able to multitask. But again, I’m not sure that any human can really do two things well at the same time, mostly when the tasks require a level of mindfulness.

You’ve got to be absent minded on one side in order to be mindful on the other side. Mostly for us in shared workplaces, you have to choose your focus intentionally — to be absent-minded in random conversations, no matter what people are saying so that you can have your mind on doing the work you are enrolled in.

You cannot do two of them at the same time – you are either talking or working. Always better to excuse yourself than to screw the work you have to do.
